Introduction
Much Ado About Nothing
Congratulations to the cast of Much Ado About Nothing! Now that auditions are out of the way, the real learning can begin.

"Who said anything about learning? I thought this was just a play."

That's correct! This is a play, and you will have plenty of time to "play" this coming fall, but there is work to be done first.  One of the most critical elements of theater is history

"History!? Oh. I thought drama was all about acting."

Well, you're partially right. But how are you going to portray a character that you know nothing about? If you want to become a great actor, you must first become a great historian.  If you want to become a great historian, you must learn to be a great explorer.

"That sounds like a lot of work."

It is! The responsibility of a good actor is to make the work fun, as it's a critical part of your craft. Learning about the historical context of the play early on makes your work during the rehearsal process much easier. Many of your questions will already have been answered, and you will have the tools to find the answers to any additional questions that arise.

"Okay, so what now?"
